Highlights from 2006

November

Outback Distance Classic, Jacksonville- Josh and Christi raced in the Outback Distance 6K race on Thanksgiving. Although it was not an adventure race, they both thought it was necessary to race and get a jump on the feast they ate that afternoon. Christi finished in the top 3rd of her age bracket and Josh finished in the top half of his age bracket. It was a great race and with over 3,500 participants well attended.

October

Oktober Jam, Deleon Springs- Christi competes in her first Adventure Race with Josh. They place 2nd in the Coed Division and 6th overall. The race was put on by the CFAR club and it was a great beginning race for Christi. The race was held in Deleon Springs and the park was a great site to have an adventure race.

September

Croom Crumbler, Brooksville- Josh and Brian competed in the Croom Crumbler in Brooksvile/Nobleton. The race was a sprint length event and the team finished 2nd in the Male Division and 6th overall. The race course had the teams paddling, biking and trekking throughout the Croom wilderness area. There was even a math problem that caused many of the teams to get hung up at the end. Fortunately the team solved it before heading to the finish line and escaping the added time penalty.

BEAR Cub, Jacksonville- Brian competed in the Solo Division of the BEAR Cub adventure race. After over 7 hours of racing, he came in 2nd in his divsion and 3rd overall. The race was held in Hanna Park and included ocean kayaking, biking and trekking with special tests.

May, June and July

Picnic Island Runs, Tampa- Brian and Josh raced in a the Picnic Island Adventure runs in May, June and July. These are 5K runs that have an obstacle course and take the runner through the waves of Tampa Bay. The water can be waist high depending on the tide and each race is different because of these changes. Brian finished as high as seventh in his division.

Muddy Buddy, Orlando- Sean and Josh competed in their first Muddy Buddy race in Orlando. The race is a "leap frog" event where one person runs while the other bikes. At each checkpoint where an obstacle awaits, the teammates switch disciplines and take off to meet and 'leap frog" at the next checkpoint. The race finishes with a crawl through the MUD PIT that is lined with the fans. It was a great time and we hope to do it again in 2007.
