Many people ask what is Adventure Racing?
Adventure racing is a combination of two or more disciplines, including orienteering and navigation, cross-country running, mountain biking, paddling and climbing with 'special' tests thrown in to test mental skills during the race.
Teams are made up of soloists, all male, all female or co-ed members. Racers work as a team to finish together and keep each motivated throughout the race. At the beginning of a race each team is handed a map of the course and a Passport that they need to have stamped or punched at pre-determined 'checkpoints'. These 'checkpoints' are set up throughout the different stages of the race. A team may mountain bike to one 'checkpoint' and then paddle to the next. The teams need to navigate with map and compass to each 'checkpoint' and in many instances a mystery test or puzzle will be encountered along the way.
To finish a race, all members of the team must finish together. This requires a team to keep each other focused and work together while navigating the course.
Most races range in length from 2-6 hours (Sprint) to multiple days (Expedition).
